Context
Overview
Steer is a banking app aimed to help young people learn to manage their finances with minimal effort. They learn the different methods of managing their money in a friendly and personalised environment.
Research
I started my project with research by running user surveys, interviews, and visiting banks. This helped me understand users better and spot gaps in the market, like the lack of money management education. That insight led me to create an app designed for young people to learn these skills in a friendly, non-condescending way. I then researched money management methods and analyzed competitors to build a stronger understanding of the topic. Finally, I created empathy maps and user personas to confirm I really understood my users.

Branding
I then picked values, tone and a name, Steer another word for a guide. From here, I selected a typeface and colours and sketched out concepts on paper for a wordmark. In the end I went with a star, the oldest form of guidance and drew it digitally. I then applied the brand to related products using elements of the wordmark. I feel the most effective was the totebag. One the branding was complete, I made a Guideline Document to tie it all together.

Digital Touchpoints
The app started with a UX teardown of Revolut where I decided on all the features that needed to be changed or added in. Then I redesigned every component in the branding of Steer. Each screen was changed to improve the user experience. The landing page combined the branding and app mockups onto a single page. I planned out my desired look and narrative before designing which worked well. It was a great representation of all the work I had done throughout this project.

Results and Outcomes
This was one of my favourite projects. It taught me a lot, like how important research is. Many of my struggles came from not doing enough research. I think the branding came out really well because of my understanding of the user. Looking back, I could have spent more time on the alignment in my app and landing page, which I ran out of time to do. Overall, I am really proud of this project and I think it really helped me to progress my skills.
